The outlines of a recovery become clearer

November 20, 2008

No, I’m not talking about an economic recovery. With Obama-Pelosi-Reid Triumvirate (or, OPR for short) itching to lurch left at the first opportunity, that’s going to take some time.

What I am thinking about are the outlines of a political recovery for the country that will bring us back to our essentially conservative center-right roots. In the last few days I’ve seen some hopeful signs for things that need to happen:

  • Governors at the Republican Governors’ Conference talking about taking leadership at the state level.
  • Conservatives of all types (economic, social & others) trying to clarify and redefine who they are and what they stand for. That’s why I started this blog.
  • Grass roots organizations trying to build structures independent of the Republican Party (see grassfire.org for example)
  • The Republican Party itself going through a re-evaluation.

Defeat can be a good thing. It can be the start of renewal or even rebirth. Is the Republican Party dead? Can it be reformed or do we need a new Conservative Party as a clear alternative to the new Democratic Socialist Party?

One thing is clear: we must get organized and get louder. We cannot allow the left to define who we are. We must reach out to all Americans with the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that made this nation great.
