Budget Deficits

May 15, 2009

It makes me really scratch my head when I read how badly the economy is doing and then read that Obama’s approval ratings remain at around 60%.  Are people paying attention?  Or can you really fool most of the people most of the time?

Take budget deficits for example.  On campaign, Obama excoriated then-president Bush’s budget deficits.  He further went on to say that the appropriations for the war on terror were a supplemental appropriation, implying (or did he say it outright?) that Bush was trying to pull one over on the American public.

Good point.  Bush spent too much, even before the Democrats took control of Congress in 2006.  But then what does O do once elected?  A huge stimulus package, most of which is totally non-stimulative pork.

A couple of weeks later the 2009 regular budget, with a record deficit, is passed.  Charts and graphs show us that this administration is spending more money than all previous 43 presidents put together.

And now, in May, Congress passes guess what?  Yup, a supplemental appropriation to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq…just like the hated Bush administration.

Are they insane?  Did they not get the message of the Tea Party protests?  (No, of course not.)  Do they think we are so wrapped up in the Swine Flu Pandemic and the Pelosi Waterboarding Scandal and the Failure of Detroit that we won’t notice?  Apparently they do.

The polls are telling me they could be right.  And I really hate to say that about leftists.
