Some in Congress are Listening

Yesterday some 25-30,000 protesters showed up in DC to protest the gargantuan House health care bill.  I first heard of the idea late last week when Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) called for people to show up Thursday at noon on the capitol steps in an interview on Fox News.  The call sounded spur-of-the-moment; she repeated it a couple of times during the week.

This was different than the 9-12 March.  Then, we marched on DC and on that Saturday Congress pretty much made themselves scarce.  The news media ignored or downplayed 2 million people gathered at the Capitol.  Many people had never been to DC before and actually made a family vacation of the opportunity.  Some scheduled appointments with their representatives on Friday 9-11 to let their feeling be known.

This time people came on short notice and gathered on a Thursday–when Congress couldn’t ignore us–at the request of a member of Congress who was backed by a large contingent of her own party.  Somebody’s listening.  One party down, one to go.

And the other party does have a way to go.  Speaker Nancy Pelosi had people arrested as they threw papers around the hallway outside her office, among other heinous crimes.

What will it take to get them to listen?  They even ignored Tuesday’s election results.  Maybe November 2010 will get their attention.

I hope it doesn’t take another year. We are everywhere, and we make noise.
    READ OUR LIPS
    READ OUR SIGNS
    READ OUR VOTES
    OUR GRANDPARENTS DIDN’T WANT IT
    OUR PARENTS DIDN’T WANT IT
    WE DON’T WANT IT
AND OUR CHILDREN DON’T WANT IT
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE WORD NO, YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND, NANCY?
    See you at SGP
We are sick and tired, and we aren’t going to take it anymore!
