What’s New is Old

April 1, 2010

I came across this cartoon on the Internet recently:

It’s kind of ironic that it was published in the Chicago tribune in 1934. If you’ve read Amity Schlaes book The Forgotten Man, you’ll know who all these named people are. Then compare 1934 to today:

  • Are we being led by “young pinkies” (Marxists) from Columbia and Harvard?
  • Are we depleting our resources to the point where Moody’s is considering downgrading us?
  • Are we spending under the guise of recovery?
  • Is the government blaming Wall Street capitalists for the failure?
  • Is the Congress ignoring the Constitution?

What’s next? It’s April Fools’ Day and the joke is on us.
