Bob McConnell for Senate District 8

December 28, 2010

Bob McConnell, grassroots candidate for US Congress in District 3, has thrown his hat in the ring to replace Senator Al White in State Senate District 8. You may recall that McConnell made a strong showing in the State Assembly against Scott Tipton but ultimately lost to him in the primary. A true conservative and a true man of honor, Bob then endorsed Tipton who went on to beat John Salazar. Bob played hard and played fair and I’m glad to see he’s still in the fight.

Since the November 2nd election, the Liberty movement has done some really extraordinary things that have largely gone unnoticed by the mainstream media. Yes, we helped squash Reid’s pork-laden FY 2011 budget proposal, but behind the scenes we set amazing precedents. Tea Party Patriots and Freedom Works held an online town hall to hear from candidates for RNC chair, a first. Tea Party activists failed to prevent Michigan Rep. Fred Upton from gaining the chairmanship of the Energy  and Commerce Committee but in the process he got the message and repudiated the “light bulb bill.” That anyone outside of the House Republican leadership was able to weigh in on committee assignments is an amazing first.

What does this mean for Colorado? There are 15 Republicans in the Colorado State Senate and 20 Democrats.  We all should have a voice in replacing Al White with a strong conservative. That’s why Bob McConnell is asking for our support–whether we live in Senate District 8 or not.

Please take a moment to make history again and send an e-mail expressing your views. The vacancy committee consists of the County Chairs of the counties that make up the 8th District. The people on the vacancy committee who will decide who holds the seat for the next two years are:

Phil Vaughn (Chairman):
Milton Blakey (Garfield County Chair):
David Smith (Rio Blanco Chair):
John Ponikvar (Moffat County Chair):
Jack Taylor (Routt County Chair):
Randy Milhoan (Eagle County Chair):
Dick Snavely (Jackson County Chair):
Audrey Danner (Secretary 8th District, Moffat):

Jean White, Al White’s wife,  is also on the committee but since she herself is a candidate, we believe she will not be voting.

There is a lot we can do to let our voices be heard in this process: spread the word, write emails, letters and editorials.

Here are the details on the meeting itself:

DATE:  Monday, January 3, 2011
TIME:   2:00 pm
PLACE: Moffat County Courthouse  221 W. Victory Way, Craig, CO

The meeting is open to the public, and that includes all of us who can make it.  Bob concludes his announcement with:

Put your true conservative voice in that senate seat.  I hope you’ll support me in this opportunity to serve.  Thanks,  God bless, and keep the faith.
